Old Town Computer Sign

The sign was a commission for Old Town Computers. I met with the owner several times to discuss the design. The sign needed to showcase both old and new world technologies.
All the material used in the construction is reused post consumer, including: the letters, bolts, screws, computer parts and bricks. The only thing purchased new for the sign was adhesive and red paint used on the letters and gears.
The Letters and Gears were cut with a bandsaw from Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). The gear located on top has a built in clock creating subtle movement in the sign.
The box truss frame was welded from 1/4" and 3/16" round rod. A MDF form was used to weld the curved box truss across the top of the sign.
The background wood was salvaged from an 80 year old barn. The bricks were purchased from the ReBuilding Center. Mixed in with the bricks are old computer mother boards cut the same size as the brick.
