Sewing

My idea was to phone hotels around the city and ask them if they had any old bed sheets that they might donate to an art project. As it turned out, a friend of Jessica’s had already picked up near a thousand sheets for a different project. She was more than happy to part with some of the remaining sheets.

There are two different types of panels needed for the dome. Each panel was cut out with a template which left enough room to fold the edges over a few time before sewing.

The corners and a few inches in the middle of the edges were sewn. The folding adds strength to the panel and prevents the wind from ripping it.

In the corners small fabric loops were sewn in to use to attach the panels to the dome.



The sewing of the panels took longer than all the other steps in the whole project. Many nights were spend sewing.
