The scale of this project was going to be enormous. A lot of things would be attempted for the first time. I wanted to prove that it could work before we began.
I used the excel spread sheet to design a small model made out of mat board.
I consider the model a separate project from the dome and have made a page dedicated to it. It isn’t that detailed, but it does show some of the construction photos of the model. You can see it here or click on the image.
One of the neat parts about having the model was being able to do a size comparison when the first frame members were ready. It wasn’t until I was able to put these 5 struts next to the model did I have a true appreciation for the scale of the project.
