Orbbject would be assembled from the top of the dome downward. This spreads out errors in construction along the bottom of the dome, instead of focusing them at the apex.
I built a small crane for assembly; the construction of the crane has its own page. You can find it here.
.
Two different methods were used in assembling the dome. The first time it was put together, struts were added one at a time. The dangling angle iron was confusing to work with and struts were easily bent.
Later in the Black Rock desert, things would go a lot smoother. Instead of adding one strut at a time, we built individual pentagons and hexagons on the ground. Then we lifted the whole assembly up to the frame. We removed the redundant struts and we attached the sub-assemblies to the dome. This worked out the best, it saved a lot of time and was much safer.
