Sham, that is awesome. You are the second person following the project that I know of. I mailed a Tripod to Israel a few months ago.

The captain's cabin is the next thing I'll be working on unless I can find the rear axle first. It has been really exciting seeing things come together.

Thanks again,

Andy

Hi,

I'm following your project from France... I really love it, can't wait to see it with the captain cabin, it will definitely give an idea of the final volume.

Congrats, fantastic project, keep on the great job!

Thanks.

Hey Man! This is Bucky from Happy Camp. I stopped and helped pick up the LostMachine stickers on the highway on the way to the Playa...

I got the Tripod you left for me (his name is Quark), and his light still burns dimly today. I was utterly flabbergasted when I saw him... I have never received a finer gift on the playa. Truly. Thank you so much!

Sorry I never made it over to your side of the world, but, well, the playa happened! You know how it is...

Thank you again for the wonderful gift. He is truly a treasure.

I've decide to purchase an additional tripod for my son's upcoming 17th birthday. He is totally stoked about the one gifted to me on the playa (thank you!), and would love the opportunity to come to your shop to learn how to make them. He's hoping I will purchase the newer version with the switch for his birthday gift, and I think that will make an awesome gift while helping your cause. xoxo ~eyefleye

Dude, I'm a pretty good machinist. Just sayin'. And sign me up for another tripod. I think they should travel in pairs. I'd love to come out and put some more sweat into the project, so just let me know when you're back and at it again.

I like the new design, very interesting concept... Have you considered a slip style belt drive? Use a 6"-12" wide piece of conveyor belt for the belt and place the drive motor on a detented cam. house the belt and the main drive in a polycarb housing, marking them with contrasting strips for a visual effect. The cam mount would make an emergency stop system that much more effective, as soon as the system is tripped, tension on the belt is removed and the belt no longer has any actionable force.

Yes I do have plans for a guard. It is also triggered so that if the guard is disturbed it will bring the ship to a dead stop.

Nice blog, Andy! From a safety perspective, it would be a really good idea to create some sort of guard or way to prevent someone's clothing or hair from getting stuck in the gear system. That could get very ugly, very quickly.
